DQ Herculis (Nova Herculis ) is a deeply eclipsing cataclysmic variable containing a magnetic white dwarf primary. The accretion disk is thought to block our line of sight to the white dwarf at all orbital phases because of its extreme inclination angle. Nevertheless, soft X-rays were detected from DQ Her with the ROSAT PSPC. To probe the origin of these soft X-rays, we have performed. ANNAPOLIS WORKSHOP ON MAGNETIC CATACLYSMIC VARIABLES Proceedings of a Conference held in Annapolis, Maryland July Edited by Coel Hellier and Koji Mukai. Table of Contents Preface xix Conference participants xxii Intermediate polars Recent results on intermediate polars 1.

We have developed a 3-D computer model of polars which includes the accretion stream, the accretion column, the secondary star, and the white dwarf. Each component is represented by a fine grid of surface elements. With brightness values attributed to each surface element, this model generates synthetic light curves of the various components. X-ray broad band spectral Properties of Intermediate Polars - Volume - Giorgio Matt, Domitilla de Martino, Tomaso Belloni, Lucio Chiappetti, Prank HaberlAuthor: Giorgio. Matt, Domitilla De Martino, Tomaso Belloni, Lucio Chiappetti, Frank Haberl.

We present long-term photometry of five magnetic cataclysmic variables (MCVs) that displayed pronounced VY Scl–like low states during the interval – X-ray broad band spectral Properties of Intermediate Polars. in " Annapolis Workshop on Magnetic Cataclysmic Variables ", ASP Conf. Ser., Vol. , p. are the most intriguing systems.

Doppler tomography along with observations of the spin state of the accretingstar have led to the discovery of new forms of magnetic accretion flow within these binaries.

I present a number of examples of these by: 1. Two Intermediate Mars were observed with XTE (X-Ray Timing Explorer): PQ Gem and AO Psc. A very preliminary analysis for PQ Gem was presented at the Annapolis Workshop on Magnetic Cataclysmic Variables.

At about the same time, the XTE team created a new background estimator for faint sources. The PQ Gem data must be reanalyzed using the new background : E. Schlegel, Jean Swank. Title: The X-ray Light Curves of Magnetic Cataclysmic Variables with Non-zero Shock Heights Authors: Mukai, K.
